2w89 Jongo Tower HD

I quite like this short, although I’m not too keen on the large, unlit building on the right side of the frame.  It does have some interesting reflections from the traffic, but I feel it leaves the frame unbalanced.  What I’d like to do is pan the shot using motion tracking in After Effects, probably from front to back on the left hand side, but I don’t think I can go in too close because the depth of field isn’t great.  These types of night shot demand quite a wide aperture, and therefore affect the depth of field.  The colour/white balance is good but I think the overall shot could do with being a bit longer – oh how grateful I am for After Effects!

2w89 Wind Farm 13 HD

Okay, so this may not be the most exciting of shots, but I think it is compositionally true to the rule of thirds.  I think the initial exposure was a little overexposed (check the whites on the wind turbines – they lack detail/shadow) but I don’t think it is too bad.  The edit is okay, maybe a little over-saturated, but nice and bright.  I’ve thought about panning the shot using motion tracking but I think this would detract from the rule of thirds composition.  I do like the multitude of overhead cables mixed in with the wind turbines.  I remember having to shoot this twice for some reason, maybe battery failure, so there maybe another entry of this somewhere on the blog without reflective writing.

2w89 Wind Farm 12 HD

Great shot – I’m happy with this one.  I like the clouds moving across the sky and the composition is good.  Also like the overhead cables.  The exposure is good but I think the edit is maybe a little over-saturated, but is nice and bright, giving a positive image of renewable energy.  I do think this one would benefit from being lightened slightly.  Overall, one of the better shots from the wind farm series.

2w89 Wind Farm 11 HD

Not the most exciting of shots, but not the worst either.  I like the cloud movement, but there is some flicker that needs to be eliminated.  Also the beginning needs to be trimmed and I think it could do with being lightened a little and maybe de-saturated a tiny amount.  I like that they is a good amount of depth in the image, with overhead cables in both the foreground and background.  I also like the positioning of the three turbines, that lead our eye into the picture.

This shot is definitely over-saturated and maybe a little dark (first job is to reduce the colour saturation and then see about the brightness).  The composition isn’t great; there must have been a reason why I stuck the turbine in the middle of the frame, but I do like the smaller turbines behind the main one as they give the shot a bit more depth.  This shot may benefit from a tight pan, probably from left to right.

This shot contains a bit of flicker, that can be corrected using the GBdeflicker plugin in After Effects.  Compositionally, I’m quite happy and I like the reeds in the front of the shot.  I think the edit would benefit from an increase in colour vibrance.

This shot has quick heavy flicker, due to minor inconsistencies in the closing of the aperture blades, but hopefully this can be rectified using After Effects.  I think that the edit is slightly over-saturated and has a green hue, that can later be corrected with colour balance.  I do like the moving grass in this shot, but compositionally it is not the most exciting.  This shot may benefit from a motion pan.

This edit is definitely over-saturated, and I think the original exposure was probably overexposed (look at the whites of the wind turbine – there is little detail and hardly any shadows).  There is also some flicker that needs to be fixed.  Compositionally, it’s not the best but I think that the shot is acceptable enough to be included in the final edit.

2w88 Wind Farm 5 HD

This shot definitely needs stabilising using the motion tracking feature in After Effects.  The brightness, contrast and colour could also be improved.  I like the movement of the water and feel that this would benefit from a motion pan across the shot.
